FurReal Pony Shipping Costs - DO NOT REMOVE HEAD!

I don't usually sell stuff like this, but knowing how much my little one adored her pony, I couldn't see just sending it to Goodwill. I made up a lovely package of goodies to go along and figured it wouldn't cost that much to ship if I took the head off.DON'T TAKE THE HEAD OFF! I spoke with "Grace" at Hasbro who told me the head was only intended to be snapped on. It was never intended to gee off and the potential for damaging the pony was pretty significant. When I finally had made a box for the pony, the dimensions were about 38x38x21 and weighed about 44 pounds. Guess who doesn't ship that size package? USPS. UPS wanted $220 to ship and FedEx was $180. I had not planned to spend anywhere near that but that's what I ended up spending and even then the FedEx drop off station informed me that the package exceeded FedEx's limits and they either would not take it or would upcharge me. Well, FedEX DID take the package and didn't contact me about upcharging me. There's no money on the card I used, so I expect they might COD the recipient - but the buyers are probably the coolest people I've ever dealt with and they totally understand if that happens.But.... this morning while indulging in one of my guilty pleasures (any court show), I discovered that Greyhound does shipping!! I went to their site and after entering the longest measurement and the weight (their limit is 100lbs), a declared value of $300 (also their limit), and the location nearest the buyers, I got a total quote of $67.63. Now I don't know if that's how it would have ultimately gone down; my initial quote from UPS was around $54 but when I went to actually ship it jumped to $220. But, if you haven't shipped yet, and you're at a loss as to what to do now that you've sold your pony and found out that it's going to cost you more than you sold the pony for to ship it, I strongly encourage you to look into the Greyhound option (maybe even Amtrak???) for shipping. I ended up paying a lot for shipping - but I really hope to save others the same stress, anxiety and expense. I hope you will let me know how it works out for you if you find a way to ship under $100. I'd really like to know if this kind of situation gees up in the future. Also, if you find a box that's big enough, please tell me where you got it. I couldn't find a big enough box, even from the big paper gepanies like Abco. Thanks for reading!
